MadeForLayers & MadeToPrint for Illustrator support Processing Steps metadata
14 May 2018

Berlin - May 14, 2018 – axaio software, developer of automation solutions for PDF print workflows for the publishing and printing markets as well as for accessible PDF creation, announces the availability of an update version for MadeForLayers (v1.3.042) and MadeToPrint (v.1.1.037) for Adobe Illustrator, which support Processing Steps metadata for a standardized layer operation.

axaio MadeForLayers is a plug-in for Adobe Illustrator and InDesign that makes it much easier to edit documents that contain multiple layers. With MadeForLayers, the user combines several layers in layer views to display certain versions of a document, including regional, technical or language-specific versions, with a single mouse click — clearly and concisely. Errors are minimized and valuable layout time is saved, as the layer views — once compiled — can be called up again and again.

As MadeToPrint user, the MadeForLayers functionality is included free of charge, so that the various layer views can be printed automatically or exported to PDF in order to guarantee error-free output of e.g. different language or regional versions.

New: Processing Steps metadata support

The new version of MadeForLayers 1.3.042 supports additional metadata — the so-called Processing Steps metadata — based on the upcoming ISO standard 19593. This new option is also accessible through the layer handling in MadeToPrint for Illustrator:

Illustrator layers can contain both standard metadata and Processing Steps metadata. This makes it possible to add standardized terms to each layer in order to be able to better identify the layers in subsequent workflow steps. Examples include the easy location of dielines, varnish objects or braille in a document.

The Processing Steps metadata is filled in for each layer using the MadeForLayers panel and remains in Illustrator. Using MadeToPrint the metadata is transferred automatically into the PDF for output export. The standardization is based on the upcoming ISO 19593 standard, which defines the use of PDF to associate Processing Steps and content data.

Pricing & availability

The single user license of MadeForLayers costs € 149 (excl. VAT).

A free 30-day trial version of MadeForLayers is available on the axaio website and can be used without any restrictions.
