Connected automation is easier to talk about than to place. Where does a platform like Atomyx actually fit on a floor that already runs its own tooling like Enfocus Switch, already fixes files with Enfocus PitStop or callas pdfToolbox, and already carries years of hard-won flows? The clearest way we have found to answer that is an onion: one shared foundation at the core, and three expanding roles built on top of it. You start where you are and grow outward, role by role, without changing the foundation underneath.

This series walks the three roles one at a time. Part one is the one almost every print business can act on now: single-site operations.

The shared foundation at the core

Before the roles, the core. Atomyx is cloud-native and API-first, with a configurable data model. It is built for scale and for AI, it connects through open APIs (powered by MCP) rather than bespoke glue, and its low-code engine adapts to your business logic rather than forcing you onto someone else's. Every role in the onion sits on that same foundation, which is why growing from one role to the next is expansion, not re-platforming.

Role one: single-site operations

The first role is everything that makes one site run better: data integration, production automation, dashboarding and shopfloor automation, all within a single site. For most floors this is the natural entry point, and it is where the value shows up fastest.

It is also where visibility comes in. If your site runs on Switch, the flows already move the work, but the picture of what they are doing often lives in one person's head. Dashboarding on top of what you already run turns that into a shared, live view: throughput, jobs in progress, what failed and why, which step is quietly eating your turnaround. Nothing is ripped out. The automation you trust keeps running; you simply get to see and steer it. We have written separately about rationalising those flows first, and a dashboard is how you keep that map live rather than a one-off audit.

Roles two and three: where it grows

Once a single site is connected and visible, the same foundation extends outward. Role two, multi-site orchestration, routes orders across sites with full cross-site visibility, so work goes to the right place and you can see all of it in one picture. Role three, the independent printing network, opens outward again: an open network linking print buyers and manufacturers, connecting demand with production.
